Why PLACE Creation Matters
by Lauren Colunga
LANDSCAPES ARE LIKE BOOKS
In a way, landscapes are like books. Books can be viewed in minute detail, letter by letter, or from afar as an entire collection or library. Books can be sorted into similar groupings by topic, size, color, or publication date; or they can each stand alone as a unique work of literary achievement. One book can be read by many different people and each person may experience it in a completely different way. So to is the study of landscapes through PLACE CREATION: it is a complex study of the local and regional, similarity of purpose and jarring differences of design. Each aspect of PLACE examines a unique facet of landscapes and their design through a different lens, bringing forth discussions centralized on a single focus: How do we create timeless, sustainable places that promote well-being?

Planning. Lifestyle. Aesthetics. Community. Environment.
These are the lenses through which our PLACE CREATION MATTERS blog will be exploring the design, use, and interpretation of the landscapes we see and use every day. Our opinions will change and our knowledge will grow as we learn and share relevant research and stories from around the world; we hope yours will too.
